Cesarean is significant surgery used to remove puppies from the uterus. When a normal birth is difficult, this is typically done as an emergency operation.
Most dogs recover from this procedure fast, but recovery is slower if your dog is in labor for a long time before surgery. After, she will require additional care and assistance with her puppies.
Most cats that undergo this treatment rapidly recover. However, if your cat were in labor for several hours before surgery, her recovery is slower. After, she will require additional care and assistance with her litter. Depending on her age and physical condition at the operation, a full recovery from anesthesia could take between 2 and 6 hours.
She needs to be tied while she heals so that she won’t trip and hurt herself or turn over and hurt the kittens. She should not be left alone with the kittens before she is fully alert and coordinated.
